How it works

From application to family

Short and clear – how the app guides you.

Before you apply

Is the au pair programme in Germany right for you?

Basic requirements

  • You are under 27 when applying for the visa.
  • You have at least basic German skills.
  • You can usually stay for 6 to 12 months.
  • You are fit for childcare from a health perspective.

Experience and mindset

  • You have practical experience with children.
  • You take responsibility reliably.
  • You want to live as a temporary family member.
  • You are open to different rules, routines, and culture.

Realistic expectations

  • An au pair stay is not a normal holiday.
  • Childcare and light housework are part of it.
  • An application does not guarantee a match or a visa.
  • Good communication matters on both sides.

Be prepared

These details and documents can matter

For the first form, you do not need every visa document ready yet. Complete and clear answers still help us assess your application properly.

The right match

A family call is not an exam – it is getting to know each other

It is not only the family who decides whether you fit. You also need to decide whether you feel comfortable with the family, their rules, and the real tasks.

Ask about daily life

What does a normal morning, afternoon, and evening with the children look like?

Clarify your tasks

Which activities are expected daily, weekly, or only occasionally?

Talk about schedules

When do you work, when are you free, and how is babysitting planned?

Get to know the people

Have several conversations and, if possible, also talk with the children and the previous au pair.
